World Heritage Day is celebrated to preserve the golden history and construction of selected heritage sites of the world. This is celebrated every year on 18 April. History of World Heritage Day
ICOMOS had proposed the protection of ancient buildings and sites around the world at an international summit to be held in Stockholm. Later this was passed, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization( UNESCO) World Heritage Center was established then World Memorial Day had celebrated on 18 April. Only 12 sites were included in this list in the initial days. After this, the International Council of Monuments and Sites named it World Heritage Day in 1982. UNESCO announced it in 1983. India has a total of 40 sites added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list. Only 5 countries have 40 or more World Heritage sites. World Heritage sites also attract foreign travelers.

World Class Heritage Institutes
Indian govt. has decided to set up a world-class institute ‘Indian Institute of Heritage’ at Noida. Government focus on the conservation and research of India’s rich heritage. This institute will provide quality higher education in History of Arts, Museology, Archaeology, and Archival Studies as well as also provide conservation training facilities to in-service employees and the students of this institute. National Museum Institute’s new campus was inaugurated in 2019 and It had added 4 new courses such as Archaeology, Palaeography, Structural Conservation and Cultural & Heritage Management; Epigraphy and Numismatics.
